April 2010
This month I did my first sweep through the ward, you might say. Joe, a friend of ours and myself went out and hand delivered to every household a one page flyer to let everyone know that I am running again in the upcoming election. We went out during that first bit of nice weather we had this month, so it was a great chance to chat to many of the residents of Ward 3. The support I had speaking to the many residents was overwhelming, which I am truly appreciative of.
Starting in a few months, I will knock on doors with my more complete brochure and hopefully get some feedback on what the residents of Newmarket are looking for from their representatives.
During March, I have been busy with the Optimist Club Chess Tournament, Community Living Tribute Dinner honouring Steve Hinder as well as my regular committees such as NEAC. This Chess Tournament is held every year and brings hundreds of children from various schools throughout Newmarket to compete to move forward in the regional tournaments. Pictured here is myself with Steve Hinder, the honouree this year for the Tribute Dinner. This will be the 4th Dinner I have worked on for this organization. Community Living is an incredible organization that assists people who are intellectually handicapped gain work experience, independancy and equality.
The town of Newmarket held an open house as well as a public meeting on the new by-law amendments. I attended both of these to find out what exactly where the implications of these changes. The major changes being, of course, due to the change in the Yonge-Davis corridor. Over the years, there were changes in smaller by-laws such as decks, cabanas, sheds, driveway widths etc., in various areas of town as new development was done. Not all of these were consistent, so this overhaul, as you might say, was a way to have consistencies in the town’s by-laws. Another addition to the by-laws was to implement provisions to new environmental additions such as solar panels and windmills. All of these changes were a way for the public to come and make comments to the changes. None of these have been passed, at this point, by council which I am told will be done in the near future.
March Break of course kept me busy with my family along with the end of year season of my son’s first year of hockey.
I have included a calendar of events/meetings that I will be attending in the upcoming month. If you are interested in any of these, feel free to contact me for more information.
