February 2010
Welcome to my first monthly newsletter of the campaign. It has been almost a month since I entered the race and it has already been very busy. From getting my new website up and running to working on marketing material for the upcoming months, the time has flow by.
It is less than 9 months before Election Day, October 25th and there is so much to do. I am very excited to be running again and I value your support throughout the campaign. In the upcoming months, my main goal will be to connect with as many of the residents that I possibly can, which I am hoping will be all of Ward 3 residents and of course as many residents within the town as well. I will be do this by knocking on doors and speaking directly with individuals on what their concerns are and what they would like to see for Newmarket. I believe we are ready for some new “blood” on council and the feedback from people I have spoken to has been the same.
This past month has been busy attending various meetings, including two Open Houses that were held for residents living on three streets in Ward 3 that will be undergoing reconstruction in the spring. They are Jeanette St., Jefferson St. and Hamilton Drive. The residents that I spoke to at these events seemed quite satisfied with the work that will be done. My main concern of course is speeding, which tends to get higher when streets have been re-finished to a new smooth surface. I have spent some time looking into this and have found out that there are some very simple, in-expensive and effective measures that can be done to help curb this. The simple use of painting lines on the road surfaces to give a visual appearance of narrowing of lanes has shown to reduce the speed traffic is going. It is a simple method that results in long term results, unlike the use of Police presence which works only for a short period of time. I live just off Patterson St., so this is something that should perhaps be done on this street as well.
I have also attended the information night held for the residents at Glenway, which was sold to Kerbel Group and Lakeview Homes. It was jam packed, with concerned residents wanting to find out what was going on with the development of the property. In all likelihood, this will be something that will end up in the laps of the new council. I am hoping that the new council will want to keep the grounds as green space and as a golf course. This is where I stand on the issue.
If you are interested in events that I will be attending and where I will be in the coming months, please feel free to check out my event page on my website. I will be continuing to update this on a regular basis, so please feel free to continue to check it out. As your Ward Councillor, I vow to continue this regular communication of monthly e-letters, updated and current websites and constant communication so you know about what is going on prior to it happening, not after or not at all.
I am open to any suggestions you have and feel free to contact me at any time. I look forward to represent you on council in a professional and accountable manner.
Best regards,
Jane Twinney
