June 4th, 2010

We are now half way through the campaign period and I cannot believe how fast it has gone. I guess that means the next half will go even faster. Although I am excited about the October 25th election, I do not want to rush the summer away. Too bad it wasn’t after the winter and we could rush the winter past. Yes I am a fair weather person and love the summer. I love spending my time outdoors with my son, cycling, playing golf, baseball, swimming and much more. We are active as a family playing in a mixed league slow pitch league as well as helping out with our son’s baseball team.
The past month was again busy and I can’t believe that how fast it flew by. Thus the reason I am a little late getting my June Newsletter out, so I do apologize. Part of the reason I started the newsletter now, was a way for residents to see what I envision, if elected as your representative, for the next 4 years. I would continue on with this on a monthly basis. This is a great tool to communicate to residents on what I have been working on in the community, updates and what will be coming up. My hope is to open up communication levels, increase public interaction using tools such as e-letters, newsletters, ward meetings and one on one engagement. As your representative, I am here to represent you, the residents of Ward 3 and Newmarket as a whole.
This past month I have been attending Committee of the Whole meetings, Council meetings as well as the Workshop that took place on May 17th. As a candidate, this is important to be in touch with the stages of development of council as we move forward into the fall. If elected, I will know where council and Newmarket is with regards to stages of development on such issues as the Old Town Hall, the completion of the Yonge/Davis corridor, the new by-law amendments and so forth. There are many issues that will be carried forth into the next term, so as a candidate, I feel it is my duty to be up to speed on this if elected. Along with attending these meetings, I had a great group of Ward 3 residents come out and help clean up the Glen Cedar forest for Holland River and Community Clean up day, the Sunoco Tree Planting Day at the new Environmental Park, Bike to Work Day, Community Living’s Golf Tournament and much more. So far, many residents are not yet engaged in the fall election. They are busy thinking about the school year end, summer vacations and all the wonderful things that we do this time of year as Canadians, enjoying the short season of warm weather. I don’t blame you; I will be doing the same as well along with continuing down the path of this campaign. I have had some great conversations already with so many residents of Ward 3 and I am looking forward to more. I encourage you to reach out to me and let me know what your concerns are and I look forward to meeting everyone.

I also blog on a regular basis on issues affecting us in Newmarket and I update my facebook group page as well consistently. My website [www.janetwinney.ca] and my facebook group “Jane Twinney for Ward 3 Newmarket” are my other forms of communication. Please feel free to visit these whenever you can.
