2010 Campaign

Jane Twinney was born in Lagos, Nigeria.  Her father was on his second posting, working for the British Government investigating the possible use of tropical woods for use in the pulp and paper industry.
After almost two years, the family returned to England where they again moved to the Eastern Townships of Quebec.  Another move, when Jane was 10, brought them to Ontario, where they lived in a small village between Newmarket and Barrie.  Although Jane attended school in Barrie, the family came to Newmarket regularly for shopping, medical appointments and other day-to-day necessities.
In 1982, Jane attended Brock University, where she took an interest in political science and business economics.  This led her to work as an assistant buyer for a large clothing chain at 22 years old, and then later to owning and operating her own chain of clothing and gift stores.  After 13 years, she sold her share to her partner to start a new business venture in the pet industry.  Jane always had a passion for animals and for many years you would find her most weekends competing in agility trials throughout Ontario and United States.  Her Jack Russell Terrier (JRT) won a major competition in Lexington, Kentucky that was featured on Animal Planet and Outdoor Life Network.  She is very proud of her JRT, now 16 years old, who was the first JRT in Canada to receive the very prestigious Masters Agility Dog Champion of Canada certificate.
Jane was 40 when she had her son, Michael, and decided that it was time to move on and expand her knowledge in another arena: The event, consumer and trade show industry.  Working for the Bicycle Trade Association of Canada, as sales manager for their industry trade show, she learned valuable experience which she led her to organize events for other businesses.  Today, this experience has taken her to a new career path working as an Independent contractor for RMG Loyalty, building business programs with the largest incentive program in the world, AIR MILES.
Her passion for politics, especially at the municipal level, has never wavered, and this will be her second time running for office in Ward 3. After running a very short campaign in 2006, she lost by only a small margin.  Over the last four years, she has been actively involved in both federal and provincial politics, helping with campaigns and sitting on committees.
She looks forward to representing her neighbours in the Ward that lives in and loves.
Jane has lived in Newmarket for 9 years, and has a 5-year-old son named Michael with her husband, Joe. (Yes, Michael is the late Mayor Ray Twinney’s grandson!)
Jane is a very active member of her community as well as within her son’s school, Meadowbrook Public School.  She works as an independent media/marketing consultant for the largest loyalty incentive program in the world.
Being a mother of a small child and being a woman in her community, Jane understands the needs of the residents particularly in the ward she lives in, Ward 3.
